Trying to change the headlight in a 2001 jetta does anybody know how to do it, do i really have to take off?

You can't check the manual, becuase it just tells you to go the dealer.



What you do is open the hood, and look behind the headlights. There you will see a wire clip that runs vertical along the full height of the back cover. Pull that wire clip to the outside of the car (the fender side) to remove the back cover. Once that is done, and it's not easy as there is very little room to work, the bulb just slides out and the new one slides in. Replace the cover and you're done. Take a peek under the hood. It's very likely that you'll see the clamps that hold the bulb in. Take it to JiffyLube for an oil change and have them change the bulb. They do it for the cost of the bulb plus about $2.00. You don't even have to get your fingers dirty.
