you probably have to buy the complete light knowing the way the auto industry works now days, if the plastic lens comes out you probably just can't buy the lens new, you might have to go to the junkyard and then they probably won't sell just the lens to you, they want you to buy the complete light.I have a 2002 Ford Mustang.I want to change out the headlight plastic covers. how can I do that?The entire headlight assembly would need to be replaced and it simply unscrews.

I need to know how do you change the headlight on a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. I either need detailed instructions or direct links dont tell me to go buy a manual or look on google please because I need to do this now.2000 Jetta Headlight?The drivers side is pretty tight, hope you have small hands. First there is a plastic cover that has to be removed. It's located directly above the headlight. It's attached by 2 phillips screws. Once the screws are removed pull the plastic piece straight up. Behind this cover, in between the battery and the headlight, you will see a black rectangular box being held by a pressure clip. Slide the metal clip to the opposite side of the box. Remove the cover. Unplug the wiring harness attached to the headlight bulb. Aroung the bulb is a plastic ring that acts like a nut. Turn this plastic nut until it loosens then slide over your headlight bulb. Once this ring is removed your headlight bulb should pull straight out. Insert the new bulb and put back toghether in reverse order. Don't forget to plug the wire harness back up.2000 Jetta Headlight?y dont u go to a workshop or vw dealer and ask whether they have old spares

Its a thing that sticks up that looks like its in a star pattern, and its on a yellow or white box looking thing. there is a piece of steal that goes through there, follow that back toward the car, and you should see a clamp. stick a screw driver in there, and pry it up. there are 2 of these clamps, but you really only need to pry up the one on the outside of the light. pop the light out, and then carefully turn the bulb holder out of the headlight. take your head light out, put the new one in, and put it back. then push your headlight in, put the clamp back down, and your done. take your time at this.

Go to your local NAPA auto parts, purchase the book, and you're on your way. Haynes is the BEST, hands down because unlike Chilton's, they don't' try to cram generic information on 4 or 5 vehicles in one book. Sorry to all the guys in the audience; some of the best mechanics I know are females. They have to study %26quot;harder%26quot; to prove themselves in a typically male dominated career field. That being said, asker, don't give up on yourself so soon, I have large hands, and I can't get in to replace some of them. Depending on which bulb it is, it can be a real %26quot;treat%26quot; to change. There is a lock ring that holds the bulb in place. You have to remove this first. Who cares about the old bulb? The important thing is NOT TO TOUCH THE GLASS OF THE NEW BULB. They are a halogen capsule. They heat up very quickly, and if there are any oils from your skin on the glass, they can burst. Wear rubber gloves, or use a paper towel. Good luck!

Would it be worth changing out the Headlamp bulbs on my-?
I have a 06 Chevy Silverado and was woundering if I should change the headlight bulbs to those new white lights that they sell. I am not sure how much better these work than just the normal bulbs? What brand would you reccomend, I have heard of those silver star bulbs before but don't want to replace origional bulbs unless it would be worth it?Would it be worth changing out the Headlamp bulbs on my-?Consumer reports did a test on the mercury vapor bulb compared to the original equipment bulbs and found no difference in site distance or quality of light. I haven't been able to find much info online, and there is no way I'm paying the dealership to do this. How to change the driver side headlight in a 2000 Honda Civic?
I know this question has been asked and I get the actual procedure of it but its doing it that is the problem. I can get to the passenger side head light easy, the problem is that I have a power steering and wind shield wiper containers right next to the head light on the driver side. Is it safe to move these out of the way or is there any way to get to the light. Another person told me the best way is to remove the whole head light to get to the bulb. which involves removing the bumper. Honda isn't that stupid to make you take a bumper off to change a light bulb.

Swap with someone. Although I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, I assume you mean the European style housing. Although wouldn't UK and European housings be the same? A lot of people in the states swap out for JDM style housings which have a black housing. Or you can also take them apart and paint them. Look on ScoobyMods or Nasioc for instructions. Open your hood and look down the back of the headlight assembly. You should see a plug with 3 wires attached to the back side. Remove the plug and peel the rubber cap off. Under the rubber cap is a wire retainer, Push down on the end and it will swing open. Remove the old bulb taking note of how the three terminals are positioned and take the new one out of its packaging. Be sure to never touch the glass part of the new bulb, or else it will burn out inside a week. Carefully insert the the new bulb so the terminals are in the same position as the old and swing the wire retainer back into its slot. Put on the rubber cap and plug it in. There are couple things you can do to prevent this. One is to handle things very carefully with you bare hands and never touch the glass. Or you can wear a pair of disposable vinly gloves and change the bulb. I do the latter when it is in a difficult position to remove. and slide the ring off the plastic
base. Keep the ring to retain the
new bulb.
4. Remove the old bulb from the lamp assembly by gently pulling it
straight back out of the lamp assembly.

To install the new bulb:
1. With the flat side of the new
bulb’s plastic base facing upward,
insert the glass end of the bulb into
the lamp assembly. You may need to
turn the bulb left or right to align
the grooves in the plastic base with
the tabs in the lamp assembly. When
the grooves are aligned, push the bulb into the lamp assembly until the
plastic base contacts the rear of the lamp assembly.
2. Install the bulb retaining ring over the plastic base until it contacts the
rear of the socket by rotating clockwise until you feel a “stop.”
3. Install the electrical connector into the rear of the plastic base until it
snaps, locking it into position.
4. Turn the headlamps on and make sure they work properly. If the
headlamp was correctly aligned before you changed the bulb, you should
not need to align it again.

To install the new bulb:
1. With the flat side of the new
bulb’s plastic base facing upward,
insert the glass end of the bulb into
the lamp assembly. You may need to
turn the bulb left or right to align
the grooves in the plastic base with
the tabs in the lamp assembly. When
the grooves are aligned, push the bulb into the lamp assembly until the
plastic base contacts the rear of the lamp assembly.
2. Install the bulb retaining ring over the plastic base until it contacts the
rear of the socket by rotating clockwise until you feel a “stop.”
3. Install the electrical connector into the rear of the plastic base until it
snaps, locking it into position.
4. Turn the headlamps on and make sure they work properly. If the
headlamp was correctly aligned before you changed the bulb, you should
not need to align it again.

Most systems are built to see that if someone has the key and can turn the ignition, it doesnt need the alarm to go off (ie; you are an owner). When the battery is disconnected the alarm activates because often times that is how thieves try to shut off the alarm. If you did not get the remote when you bought the car to shut the alarm off, you should consider having it removed to prevent further problems, or replace it with one that has the remotes. Most car stereo places can do this for you. I just changed my headlight for my 01 Sunfire GT. I'm just curious as to how secure the fixture sits in the headlight assembly. It seemed to easy to put in (it didn't snap back in, just put it in and turn it 1/8th of a turn, the actual light is snapped to the wires). Which brand of halo headlight is the best for Acura Integra '99?
I'm thinking of changing my headlight to a halo headlight. I've seen plenty of decent priced ones all over ebay, but don't exactly know which one is the most reliable.
Also, I have a white integra, is it better to get the chrome headlight or the black housing headlight? I'm thinking the clear chrome one.
And lastly, are the halo lights bright when driving at night?
How long did they last?

They are not bright for driving at night either, all they do is focus your headlight beam lower and conentrate it below a certain point, but if you ask me, the ebay projectors do a really bad job at it. Skip ebay projectors, join an Integra forum online and get projector retrofits done, they will be more expensive, but at least they will last you!

The old bulb won't rotate and come out without first removing the electrical plug so I am stuck.

it's easy enough mate, flip the bonnet %26amp; then you got the plastic cover on the back of the head light which you need to take off,thats to disconnect the bulbs then you'll see a couple of plastic plugs, you need to turn them then pull out the light...i think you might have 1 screw to undo that would be on the bottom left of the light.%26amp; then the head light should pop out, it's not a hard job at all, soon as you've got the bonnet up you should be able to see what is holding it in %26amp; go from there. good luck!

One of the headlights on my car is out. We bought a new bulb today, but the auto parts store wanted something like $65 to put it in. It looks like it should be simple to put in but I am having problems. We were able to take the cover off, and remove the wires, but we cannot get the bulb out. There seems to be a wire clip holding it in; but I cannot figure out how to remove the clip to take the bulb out to replace it. How would I do it?

The retainer wire is held in place on the bottom by a screw and clip on the bottom and is locked into a plastic clip on top. To remove the wire, push the wire down and towards the passenger side of the car, it will dislodge and you can then lower it to remove the bulb. Once the bulb has been changed, you want to replace the wire the same way to protect the plastic clip

When you replace that plastic cover, use plastic push pins that are available at any auto parts store . They have a wide top of the pin and flanges. You can easily replace those in the future (they also will pop out and can't be used again).

Open the hood. The headlamp retainer %26quot;speed clips%26quot; are under the black plastic shield. To remove the shield, remove the little plastic %26quot;rivets%26quot;. These %26quot;rivets%26quot; have a center pin and an outer housing. Using a flat screwdriver, gently pry up on the center pin. When it is about 1/4 inch up, pull the pin straight up and out with a pliers. Then, using a flat screwdriver, gently pry up on the outer housing of the rivet. It should come up easily. Put the pin back into the rivet housing about 1/4 of an inch and set it aside. There are two different sizes of these rivets, the larger, fatter ones go in the front center of the plastic shield. Once you have all of the plastic rivets removed, take out the plastic shield and set it aside. You can TRY taking out only half of the rivets, but the shield will keep flopping back into place--take all of the rivets out and remove the shield. Look at the headlamp assembly. It has two metal strips that hold it in place, located behind the star-shaped screws. These are the %26quot;speed clips%26quot;. The one toward the middle of the car can be removed completely; the one toward the outside of the car pops up, but not out. To pop them up, gently pry the very top backward with a flat blade screwdriver and at the same time, pull up on the top rim with a pliers (or pry up on the rim with another flat blade screwdriver). You must pry them backward because they have a dimple that holds them in place. When the clips are unlocked, the headlamp assembly can be removed by rocking it and rotating the front of the headlamp upward. Do not adjust the star-shaped screws. Good luck with the black plastic ring that holds the headlamp bulb in place; I broke mine. Twist the black plastic ring counter clockwise one quarter turn or so. You can now remove the bulb from the headlamp assembly. Before you do, put on some eye protection goggles. Take the bulb out of the headlamp assembly. Unplug the bulb from the wiring. Discard of the old bulb carefully--halogen bulbs are under pressure and can shatter. Now take the new bulb out of its packaging without touching the glass. Plug it into the wiring. CAREFULLY seat the bulb into the headlamp assembly without touching the bulb's glass. Make sure that it is completely seated. Now carefully replace the black plastic retaining ring and rotate it one quarter turn clockwise to lock the bulb into the headlamp assembly (I broke mine so do this carefully). Re-install the headlamp assembly into the car; start with the headlamp facing up and rotate it down and level as you insert it. Then slide the %26quot;speed clips%26quot; back into place. They should %26quot;click%26quot; into place. Make sure that the headlamp is locked into place by the speed clips on both sides. Test the high beams and low beams. Replace the plastic shield using the dirt patterns to guide where it should go over and where it should go under. To replace the plastic rivets (remember the bigger ones are in the center of the car), make sure the pin is only inserted a little way, push the outer housing into the hole, when the outer housing is fully inserted into the hole, push down on the pin until it is seated. Close the hood. 1.remove it. it is held it by 8 push in retainers. remove those by partially removing the center and the entire retainer shoutd pull out. there are two different sizes so pay attention to where they came from. larger diameters ones go in center and smaller ones on the outside. the cover slides out from under the front grill cover and pulls away.
2. then look down at the headlight to remove. behind it you will see two stamped steel retainers that are folded over at the top. these need to be fulled up. dirt can make these hard to pull. once loose, pull out the entire headlamp assembly.
3. remove the bulb, the headlamp bulb is held in by a large black retainer. its easier to unplug the wire pigtail at this point.
lift up the hook that holds it in place with a screwdriver. but careful not to break them. then rotate the large black retainer
and pull it away. the bulb will fall out.
4. DO NOT touch the glass of the new bulb. the oils on your hands cause excess heat and can shatter new bulb.
install new bulb into the headlamp assm. it needs to be orientated in a specific spot. just turn it around to find correct position. then install the black retainer, careful not to break it. they WILL break if installed incorrectly.
5. to reinstall headlalmp assm, there are plastic guides that must go back into place. to help, spray some wd40 on them to aid in assembly. these go through the metal frame and those metal retainers you removed are what hold these in place and hold the assm in place. then reinstall the metal retainers, also use wd40. once intstalled reverse the teardown porcedure.
once done, check headlamp operation.

I have the composite beams and bought Silver star lights. I can't get my hand in the small space to unclip the lights. I tried to take the four little screws out and tried to pull the grill down out of the way but the beams are mounted to the truck not the plastic grill. On the passenger side I have the battery and the horn in the way. Your car probably uses a H9007 or a H9004 bulb. You have what is called %26quot;composite headlights.%26quot; That means the lense is one part and the bulb is replaceable from the back. You might be able to reach the bulb from the back of the housing. All you do is open the hood and look behind the back part that the lense is mounted to. There should be a pigtail that plugs into the back of the bulb. There is a plastic retaining ring that holds in the bulb. The way I take out the bulb is to turn the ring and remove the bulb, ring, and pigtail all at the same time. Then I pull the pigtail off of the bulb and discard it. Install the bulb in the hole in the back of the headlight assembly taking care not to touch the glass part of the bulb. Touching it will cause it to blow out within 2 weeks. If you touch it just wipe it off with a paper towel soaked in alcohol to remove the finger oils. After it is in the hole and seated, (the little tab that the pigtail locks onto should be on top,) put the plastic retaining ring on and turn it to lock it into place. I have a 2004 Beetle convertible. And just recently changed it myself. The dealer will try to tell you there is no way you can do that, and that you need a %26quot;special%26quot; tool. But that isn't true.
Here are the directions. Hope they work for you :)
1.Pull the lever to open the hood inside the left side under your steering wheel.
2. Open the hood.
3.There is a black plastic lever on the column to the Passenger's side view same on the Driver's side.
4.Push it so that it %26quot;loosens%26quot; the column holding the light casing.
5. Gently push the column forward to get the entire casing for the headlight bulb out.
6.Unhook the wires attached to the light.
7.Take the light out on a table and unclip the black tab.
8.Unhooked the clips on the side of the casing, and then the wire clip holding the bulb. (Close the clip the same way you opened it) .
9. Touch only the metal part or use a paper towel to hold the new headlight bulb (The oils from our hands will make the halogen bulb not last as long.)

when i worked at a VW dealer, i sold people the bulbs and let them do it themselves... many of them couldn't, the typical VW owner isn't capable of the steps you just listed.

Opened up the hood. Pull the headlight cable of the burned out bulb. Remove the rubber covering. Then press the clip that holds the bulb and pull it out. Replace with new bulb. Assemble back accordingly, but remember not to touch the glass with bare hand. BTW have it replace with H 12V - 55W/60W bulb. There you are!

Opened up the hood. Pull the headlight cable of the burned out bulb. Remove the rubber covering. Then press the clip that holds the bulb and pull it out. Replace with new bulb. Assemble back accordingly, but remember not to touch the glass with bare hand. BTW have it replace with H 12V - 55W/60W bulb. There you are!

Make sure you purchase the correct application (D2S) and DONT TOUCH THE BULB when replacing it. If it's a standard halogen bulb then you still have to get the correct application the still do not touch the bulb end. Your fingerprints will cause it to burn in hot spots which will eventually lead to another burn out. Hopefully it's just a halogen because HID Xenon bulbs from factory are REALLy $$$$$$$$. I just replaced one of mine for $175, but you should never have to replace an HID bulb. It usually means there's something else wrong other than the bulb itself. To replace either or you have to remove the plastic caps on the reverse side of the headlight inside the engine compartment and twist out the bulb.
Now for the indicator bulb there should be a hole with a screw down inside it on top of the housing where your hood sits. Stick a screw driver down there and unscrew it. It doesn't come out all the way!!! So don't force it. THen pull the whole housing out and turn the bulb connector a little to release the housing. ******When you slide the housing back into place make sure you don't tighten the screw down too much, you could crack the plactic Y looking piece that hold the whole housing in. Something like the Sylvania Silverstars or the GE Nighthawks will give you a whiter light but they are still regular bulbs. Without going into it too much, HID lights work completely differently and don't give off light the same way. This means that the reflector in your bike is not designed for the way that HID light give off their light, so the beam pattern will be all wrong. You could probably get a kit if you really wanted to but I wouldn't recommend it. I think in most places it is illegal to put HID lights in something that wasn't designed for them.

What you do is open the hood, and look behind the headlights. There you will see a wire clip that runs vertical along the full height of the back cover. Pull that wire clip to the outside of the car (the fender side) to remove the back cover. Once that is done, and it's not easy as there is very little room to work, the bulb just slides out and the new one slides in. Replace the cover and you're done. I own a 2000 GTI, and I want to replace the headlight bulbs with brighter ones. I was going to get Silvania Ultras, but are there any nice white and bright bulbs that you recommend that are not too pricy? Anyway, I looked under the hood, and there is a cover that comes off to access the bulbs. The bulb and wire are held in with like a thin metal wire clip. I am sick of waiting on people to do it for me. What tools do I need and how should I go about doing it. The older sealed beam types you replace the whole lamp assembly. There is either a round or square chrome retaining ring around the headlight with 3 or 4 phillips head screws that must be removed from the front. Usually not too difficult but on some vehicles you may have to remove some of the grill work to get to them. Just be sure you don't mess with the 2 adjuster screws, (Top and Side) On the newer style where only the bulb is replaced, you have to remove them from the backside. There should be a locking plastic collar that has to be twisted to the left until it releases. You should then be able to pull the bulb and connecting wires straight back and remove the wires from the bulb. The bulb is held in place by a rubber O-ring and may take a little effort to remove. You then push the new bulb into the socket making sure the flat part of the electrical connector is facing up. You should feel it click into place. Replace the plastic retaining ring and plug the wire back into it. Changing the bulb itself is not that difficult but getting to them can be. It's not uncommon to have to remove your battery or air intake to gain access. As for touching the bulb, it probably won't make it explode but the oils from your skin will make a %26quot;hot spot%26quot; and cause it to burn out prematurely. Don't touch it with bare skin.
